Role of the ATMA

One of the ATMA's most important roles is as an energetic and consistent lobbyist of government and statutory bodies regarding issues of concern to ATMA members.

The ATMA maintains liaison with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), tertiary institutions and any other organisations that may affect members' interests.

AIMS and OBJECTIVES

The ATMA has the following aims and objectives:

• To provide a forum for representation to government and statutory bodies on issues of interest to members
• To remain receptive and responsive to members' needs and interests
• To monitor and inform members of development in the taxation and management areas of accountancy
• To conduct seminars and conferences on topics of wide business interest to members, kindred bodies and the business, commercial and industrial communities
• To grant membership to graduates with an accounting major without the need for further qualifications
• To admit qualified accountants who posess the required educational standards and experience, as determined by the ATMA Membership Committee
• To promote excellence by sponsoring academic prizes at Australian Universities for outstanding students in Taxation Law and Management Accounting achieved in a degree course majoring in accounting
• To obtain widespread recognition for the ATMA in the commerce, industry and accounting professions
• To foster, through co-operation, a relationship with other professional bodies and kindred professional organisations
