ATMA SMSF Audit Requirements
Do you want to be an SMSF auditor? Are aware of the new changes coming in?
If so you are required to be a member of a registered tax agent association (RTAA) such as the ATMA, hold a Public Practice Certificate (PPC), and have completed a PPC workshop, have completed an SMSF audit workshop and completed some audits of SMSFs prior to 30 June 2012.
If you have previously completed a SMSF workshop with the ATMA or another association more than 3 years ago then we suggest you do another SMSF audit workshop with the ATMA or another professional association. This is to ensure your competency standards and knowledge requirements are as up to date as possible. ASIC will be taking over the registration of SMSF auditors from 2012. If you are not an approved SMSF auditor by this date you will be required by ASIC to prove your competence in auditing SMSFs and this will include completing an SMSF audit workshop and completing an examination set by ASIC before you will be registered as an SMSF auditor. The ATMA runs regular SMSF workshops to assist you in complying with these new changes.
If you audit SMSFs then you must be a Member (MTMA) or Fellow (FTMA) of the ATMA. You must also hold a PPC and have completed a PPC workshop and SMSF audit workshop. Please note that Associate (ATMA) status is not a sufficient membership level to audit SMSFs.
